Vocal Tips and Techniques

First and foremost, to give you an overview of my approach, it basically involves a combination of the following dependant upon the problems encountered:

DISTRACTION EXERCISES - designed to stop people listening to themselves and interfering with their voices whilst engaged in a performance - I call this practise 'not doing what you're doing whilst you're doing it'.

PSYCHOLOGICAL COACHING - not as scary as it sounds, just a series of light-hearted lectures designed to collapse fears and personal preconceptions, combat nerves, boost confidence and leave the person with the ability to perform as a free and fully self-expressed individual.

IN-DEPTH TEXT ANALYSIS - designed to enable the singer to emotionally connect with the lyric on a deep and personal level, thus making the song their own.

TECHNICAL EXERCISES - what I consider to be the best and most productive of these drawn from some of the more traditional schools of thought (Bel Canto, Estill etc). These include exercises relating to support, sound production and vocal placement.

QUICK FIXES - designed to cure most vocal problems almost instantaneously, including one exercise formulated to relieve nasal congestion caused by the common cold!

Finally, some examples of the above can be found in the following hard copies of published articles composed by various Journalists:
